Nightshift - Sure Look

Posted by 4 sites • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Glasgow band Nightshift smooth out their sound with their third record, releasing today on Trouble In Mind. "The synths become thicker, the guitars strum and twang, and the vocals get an incandescent glow," says Raven Sings the Blues. "A confident, catchy, yet cushioned vision of the latter days of post-punk's slide towards the late '80s."

Lava La Rue - Humanity

Posted by 2 sites • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
The latest album from London's Lava La Rue (Stack №313) plots "a constellation of cosmic funk with a smattering of shimmering '80s synths, atmospheric strings, West London rap, alt-rock guitar shredding, and injections of drum & bass," says Bandcamp. It's out now on Dirty Hit.

chester watson & elaquent - gargoyle

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Atlanta-based rapper Chester Watson connects with Ontario producer Elaquent for an astral-minded EP. Passion of The Weiss writes, "Each track is crafted like a quick hitter, rolling up spiritual transmissions and Japanese imagery in the bass-driven boom bap Elaquent lines the paper with to emit a throat-burning high."

Ben Hauke - HEYYYYY

On his debut with South London label Touching Base, local producer Ben Hauke recruits Goya Gumbani (Stack №389), Katy B (№76), Shy One (№383), and others for "boundary-pushing club jams spanning UK garage, hip-hop, broken beat, crooked breaks, and jungle," reports Inverted Audio. It was released in June.

Wendy Eisenberg - Lasik

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Brooklyn-based improvisational musician Wendy Eisenberg announces a new album coming this September on American Dreams. The songs meditate on her new perspective of the world following recent Lasik surgery, "reckoning with exactly what it means to see and not to see, and how beauty and meaning are inherent within both experiences," says Various Small Flames.

English Teacher - Nearly Daffodils

Posted by 2 sites • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
One of the most talked-about debuts this year belongs to Leeds band English Teacher (Stack №320). This Could Be Texas features "poignant storytelling, infectious melodies, and a sense of urgency that leaves a lasting impression," says Cougar Microbes.
GOOD MIX
Truants presents this mix from NYC producer Alien D: "A contemplative excursion through soulful house, evocative techno rhythms, tripped-out vocals, and late-night dancefloor bliss, shining a well-deserved light on the music of his peers."
GOOD READ

For The Ringer, Matthew Jacobs collects the oral history of the "Garden State" Soundtrack:

"Twenty years after the release of ‘Garden State,’ the movie endures as the epitome of love-it-or-hate-it, twee indie. But if there’s one thing most people can agree on, it’s that the soundtrack was really, really good."

Thanks for listening!
