Starcleaner Reunion - The Hand that I Put Down

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
New York City band Starcleaner Reunion cites Stereolab, krautrock, drone, and '60s Brazilian music as influences for their self-dubbed "Euro-pop" songs. They released their latest EP in September, and The Fader notes, "songs that are tied with knotty musical ideas yet float by like a refreshing summer's breeze."

Cavalier & Child Actor - Knight Of The East

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Brooklyn-raised, New Orleans-based rapper Cavalier (Stack №449) shares his third project of 2024. BrooklynVegan says he "paints a vivid picture of his former neighborhood" as producer Child Actor "sets Cav's stories to a genre-bending backdrop that embraces jazzy boom bap at one moment and something much more far-out and psychedelic the next." It's out on billy woods' (№281) Backwoodz label.

Contour - Theresa

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Out now via Mexican Summer, the new LP from South Carolina artist Khari Lucas, aka Contour, is a "spare, dense album with the quiet fervor of prayer," writes Pitchfork. "Lucas prefers to operate in the haze, his music never soaring too high or sinking too low."

22º Halo - Cobwebs

Posted by 3 sites • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Stereogum says Philadelphia band 22º Halo "have developed a unique, enrapturing take on indie rock...spacious and minimal yet always overflowing with ideas—like Hovvdy (Stack №167) putting their cozy audio gauze around bar italia's (№409) spindly indie-pop, or maybe Alex G (№62) remixing Yo La Tengo." Their new LP arrives on Tiny Library Records.

Madam X & Cartridge - Hoodlum FC

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Longtime DJ Madam X makes her production debut with a new EP featuring four bass-heavy club collaborations releasing on her own KAIZEN label. Per Resident Advisor, "the record sounds much like her own sets, which she described in 2022 as being connected by 'dark rooms, big fat speakers, sweaty bods and lots of wobble.' In that sense, Homecoming does exactly what it says on the tin."

Lynn Avery & Cole Pulice - All That the Air Allows

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Lynn Avery & Cole Pulice follow up their 2022 collaboration with Phantasy & Reality, which finds the experimental artists "collaging their contributions, recording both in person and through a series of mailed overdubs that wind around songs in Papier-mâché layers," writes Raven Sings The Blues. It's out on Moon Glyph.
GOOD MIX
Italian-German composer, DJ, and 99CHANTS label founder David August presents an abstract Sunday Mix for Crack Magazine: "I tried to keep things easy for the uneasy times we live in."
GOOD READ

For Stereogum, Tom Breihan on Donna Summer’s “MacArthur Park”:

"The whole saga of ‘MacArthur Park’—as a song, a standard, and a cultural phenomenon—is a whole lot weirder than the infamous image of a cake left out in the rain."

Thanks for listening!
