Here's one to glide to with the windows down this weekend, from Fool's Gold producer Hoodboi featuring Australian MC Tkay Maidza. His new EP, Breathing Room, hits at the end of the month.
The LA-based pianist (and Stack
favorite) will soon share Happysad
, which he describes as an “emotional journal” of instrumentals straddling beats and jazz. It's his Stones Throw debut following last year's release on imprint Leaving Records.
The synth-driven post-punk songs on the late 2017 LP from British Asian musician Nabihah Iqbal (fka Throwing Shade) continue to radiate. "It’s a ghostly, enveloping album, beautiful black-lace songs that billow and float," says Bandcamp Daily
Ric Wilson honed his talents as part of Young Chicago Authors, the literary circle that's produced some of the city's greatest (Chance, Jamila Woods, and more). This lead track to a new EP on Innovative Leisure sprightly retraces a breakup.
Out next week, the new album from Nashville/New Orleans duo and (Hovvdy collaborators) Bent Denim is a collection of nostalgic slow-core compositions. “Sort of an electro-organic twee with a Southern sensibility,” says Stereogum
, the new album from Texas-based desert-blues outfit RF Shannon.
Nabihah Iqbal (above) gives Groove Magazin a fun mix which navigates between the worlds of 80s-inspired pop music and the dance floor.
Slate remembers a time when music reviews could end a career:
"When did music critics lose their ability to kill? It happened gradually. And we never quite stopped to acknowledge the sea change."
Thanks for listening!
