As Tygapaw, DJ, producer, promoter, and designer Dion McKenzie makes spirit-affirming dance music. The Fader describes it as "pulled from a grab-bag of aesthetics: the R&B records her mother kept around, the grunge she grew up watching on MTV2, and the cathartic club sounds from the queer nightlife world she is now solidly a part of." Inspired by her own experience as a queer Jamaican immigrant living in New York City, she founded the QTPOC collective and monthly party Fake Accent, which highlights queer and trans artists of color. Having already filled clubs around the world, she signals her debut as a producer and writer with Love Thyself, an emotive, expansive, and collaborative EP out on Sweat Equity.
