Alostmen
Kologo
Out January 29th, 2021 Buy

Alostmen's Stevo Atambire is evolving kologo music in Ghana, using the stringed lute instrument nontraditionally. Incorporating different pedals, lower octaves, and other techniques for a rhythmic pace, he says, "I like to force it to work." He formed Alostmen with afro-pop musician Wanlov The Kubolor (FOKN Bois), goje player and singer Jo Ajusiwine, talking drummer Aminu, and Sowah, who plays the gome box, djembe, and conga. The band call themselves Alostmen "because we were lost in the street, the forgotten people," says Stevo. They recorded this highly collaborative album on the road in Uganda and North West Ghana in hotel rooms, incorporating rap, reggae, and more into the lively mix.
