For the last decade, London-based Australian artist Penelope Trappes has fronted the synth-pop duo The Golden Filter. In 2017, she released an album of sparse solo recordings called Penelope One. Here, she presents its follow-up, a melancholic collection dedicated to "two dear friends, who lost very close loved ones." Built with guitar, piano, synth drones, and field recordings, the reverb-heavy songs express "harrowing but hopeful themes of rebirth/renewal, beautifully blurring the lines between eerie conjuring and meditative lullaby," says Gorilla vs. Bear. The record is out on Houndstooth.
