With her debut release, Philadelphia-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Nina Keith seeks serenity. Her arrangements are sparse: at the center is contemporary classical piano, weaving between and around it are found sounds and textured traces of vocals, flute, and electronics. Painting the work is her relationship with death and the unknown, shaped by childhood experiences with EMDR therapy as well as community tragedy and paranormal incidents. The music evokes "a glowing childlike wonder tinged with an overwhelming sense of melancholy," says Gorilla vs. Bear; "a profoundly reflective and beautiful album." It's out on Grind Select.
