Disque Debs International Vol. 1
An Island Story: Biguine, Afro Latin & Musique Antillaise '60-'72
Out June 29, 2018 Buy

Strut Records presents a comprehensive new series from the archives of French Caribbean label Disques Debs, out of Guadeloupe. Volume 1, compiled by Hugo Mendez (Sofrito) and Emile Omar (Radio Nova), collects works from the label/studio's first decade, many of which were recorded in the back of the late Henri Debs' shop in Pointe-a-Pitre. From big band orchestras to local talents to foreign artists passing through town, the collection captures a fertile time when the créole music of Guadeloupe and Martinique was beginning to reverberate well beyond the region's shorelines.
