Detroit country-rock outfit Bonny Doon write warm and breezy songs that make the most with "a little bit of wistful melancholy, dependably sanguine guitar lines, and a penchant for literary storytelling," per Stereogum. The band's five members (two of which share writing and vocal duties), tracked their self-titled debut on a reel-to-reel tape machine at a studio in Ann Arbor, and finished it at their practice space in the city, but the material spans far beyond its industrial surroundings. Sunlit arrangements, at times freewheeling and at others resigned, mask lyrics of longing, apathy, and "contentment in simply letting go." Out on Salinas Records.
