Since 2015, 21-year-old Portland musician Harrison Smith has amassed an extensive catalog of unconventional bedroom-pop under the name Turtlenecked. His new LP, Vulture, refines the restless sound in a "maximalist, mucky palette," says CLRVYNT, "heavy on the guitar hooks and light on the acoustic fluff, with a hint of Wire's baroque punk for good measure." Smith's unflinching charisma guides the listener around manic and morbid themes, covering every inch of the emotional spectrum from severe to sweet. It's out on Northwest DIY label Good Cheer Records.
