Formed while classmates at The New School, Brooklyn five-piece Tiny Hazard have developed their sound over the last few years as an active part of the local live scene. Their debut full-length, recorded in various studios and bedrooms, has the nuanced quality of something that's been patiently assembled, while still feeling raw. This duality begins with opera-trained singer Alena Spanger, whose acrobatic, stream-of-consciousness delivery can move from composed to unhinged at will, recalling avant-pop work ranging from Lizzy Mercier Descloux to Ponytail and Dirty Projectors. Then there's the complex and colorful instrumentation, which accompany Spanger to realms both elegant and chaotic. It's out on Ba Da Bing Records.
