Exploded View constructs experimental rock songs that permeate the subconscious as much as they groove. On their second full-length, Obey, the transcontinental trio—UK-born, Berlin-based Annika Henderson (Anika), Mexico City-based Hugo Quezada (Robota), and Martin Thulin (Crocodiles)—move from their improvisational post-punk origins to a tighter, grittier approach employing tape loops and overdubbing. "A logical continuation," says SPIN, "with the same beat-poet delivery from Henderson and tense kinetic energy from the instrumentalists, who sound a little like the members of Can jamming in Lee ‘Scratch' Perry’s Black Ark Studios.” It's out on Sacred Bones, home to Zola Jesus, Jenny Hval, and Amen Dunes.
