Maryland-raised, New York-based saxophonist and vocalist Braxton Cook came up listening to old jazz and Motown records in rotation with D’Angelo and Frank Ocean. Before graduating from Juilliard, he was already touring the world with trumpeter Christian Scott. Across recent solo output, he's displayed a "refreshing take on jazz and R&B," says Bandcamp Daily. It's an oft-improvised sound Cook calls Future Jazz Soul. In his own words, the freewheeling self-release No Doubt pulls from his "experience as a Black musician in America and aims to speak to the margins in society."
