Julia-Sophie - telephone

The new LP from Anglo-French electronic pop artist Julia-Sophie is out next month on Ba Da Bing Records. Various Small Flames calls the album closer "a lush song of love, loneliness and longing, where the brightness on the horizon might be some emergent hope or just the neon smudge of the last place still open so late at night."

maassai - blueprint

Underground Brooklyn rapper maassai (Stack №315) returns following 2023's collab project as H31R (№429), sharing a collection of sketches recorded over the past few years. Bandcamp says the music pairs "swaths of soothing synths underlaid with drums" with maassai's lyrical flow, which "swings from abstract wanderlust to cocksure braggadocio."

Following her 2022 debut, Sub Pop-signed UK singer-songwriter Naima Bock announces a follow-up album cued for September with this “soulful, brassy” (BrooklynVegan) lead single.

Shy One - Gyallis Spiral

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
London producer Shy One (Stack №383) has a new two-tracker out now via Numbers. Philip Sherburne's Futurism Restated frames the A side as the "best of both worlds," where "its burly acid squelch and unvarnished machines, hews decidedly toward the classic, while its slightly pastel pads and dubbed-out air of ambivalence keep things emotionally off kilter."

Autobahns - Tellin' Ya

Posted by 3 sites • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
German musician Giuliano Iannarella makes restless punk music as Autobahns and his accuratetly titled FIRST LP! offers a proper entry point. "This is one wild record," says Add To Wantlist. "It’s fast, intense, and more varied than your average egg punk offering. Iannarella’s sonic concoctions keep you guessing, proving there’s more to this subgenre than meets the ear."
FEATURED ALBUM

Richard Norris - Conqueror Dub

If the weekend ahead calls for a summer dub album, veteran UK producer Richard Norris (Stack №80) has you covered. "Oracle Sound Volume Three sees him continue to distill those classic, big system JA sounds, but keep the dub continuum fresh by giving them a modern lick of downtempo paint," writes The Slow Music Movement Blog.
GOOD READ

For Longreads, Ayla Samli on finding beauty, human connection, and one’s heritage in the resonant sounds of the dulcimer.

"Just as a line connects two points, the mountain dulcimer’s strings link people through time and space."
