Samantha Urbani - 1 2 3 4

Formerly of Brooklyn band (and blog favorite) Friends, Urbani drops her first solo effort, on which she plays all the instruments while channeling 80s Madonna and the MTV decade's "large glass-shattering production" (Nialler9).

Ratatat - Cream on Chrome

Hours before playing Coachella, Ratatat shares their first track in five years—and immediately tops our Popular chart. Familiar ("synths and zipping guitar riffs") while fresh, says All Things Go, suggesting you may have "missed Ratatat more than you thought."

White Reaper - Make Me Wanna Die

Following last year's self-titled EP, the Louisville, KY, band signs with Polyvinyl and readies their debut LP. MOKB is excited for this first single, which "really encapsulates the in-your-face yet melodic garage psych they've become known for, with a surf-rock twist."

Lido & Canblaster - Superspeed

Young beatmaker and 1/4 of French dance collective Club Cheval, Canblaster's growing penchant for pop/R&B is on full display as he joins forces with Swedish producer Lido (best known for work with Cashmere Cat) on their new collab EP's invigorating title track.

Girlpool - Before The World Was Big

Philly-via-LA duo Girlpool release the title-track from their forthcoming album. With stringent vocal harmonies, it tells "a tale of friends growing up in seemingly quiet places, before life spirals out of control and the simple things become big challenges" (DIY).

This week's album premiere is The Crystal Cowboy, the new LP from Drew Lustman (FaltyDL).

As for interesting reads, try a few of these pieces on "indie" and race.

Thanks for listening!
