Puro Instinct
Autodrama
Out June 24th, 2016 Listen on Spotify

Some time has passed since the release of Puro Instinct's debut LP in 2011, during which the Hollywood-raised sister duo of Piper and Skylar Kaplan shifted direction with a Balearic one-off single in 2012 ("Dream Lover"), decamped to Australia for a short while (where initial work on this second album began) and younger sibling Sky finally graduated from L.A. County High School for the Arts (LACHSA). With a particular focus on sounds and sonic arrangements, this new self-produced album also finds them drawing as much from their outsider-pop mentors (Ariel Pink, R. Stevie Moore) as from their dream-pop contemporaries. Even the lyrics aim to subvert the accepted values of their Hollywood hometown for something more personal: "What we're going for is pop music that is not about vanity and wealth," adds Piper. "But is still pop music nonetheless."
