Since 2013, Driftless Recordings—founded by Joel Ford (Airbird) and Patrick McDermott (North Americans)—have released a mixture of organic music (like guitarist Hayden Pedigo), synth-pop (Young Ejecta), and experimental sound design (CFCF). They've also become known for compilations, inviting artists beyond their roster to contribute to Ambient Volumes I & II. The label's latest collection, Driftless Instrumental I, arrives with new and distinct parameters: one-take, solo performance, with no overdubs and limited effects. Featured are pieces on guitar, piano, cello, Wurlitzer, and saxophone, from the likes of Zachary Cale, Megafortress, and more.
