Thunderheist - LBG (Lunice Remix)

Thunderheist return with “LBG” – just about the most fun you could have – ever – whilst discussing racial and gender stereotyping. “Little Booty Girl” sees producer Grahmzilla hitting the low slung electronic groove about as hard as anywhere on the duo’s superb eponymous debut while Isis gives mad love to all her sisters with a compact tush. But not content with merely displaying their own bottom end Grahm and Isis have pulled in a group of stunning remixes.

The package begins with a punishingly wonderful six minute rework from Mexican beatmaster Toy Hernández aka Toy Selectah. Taking the intense bass of the original and chopping it with hyperactive percussion and pure dancefloor drive, Hernández confirms his reputation as one of the most talented remixers in the business. Next up Bombaman disembodies Isis into an echoey hyperdrome and strafes us with squelches for more of the trademark dubstep-electro which has had him picking up major plays from Rusko, Diplo et al. Lucy ’Lo aka Jay Joliffe puts some space into the original for a slowly building bout of tribal-tech. Bonjay, meanwhile, combine their indie-aesthetic dancehall with mournful harmonies and foreground Isis’ vocals for a uniquely Torontian style. Last up is Lunice, his wonky, locker’s tech-funk as spot on as anyone who has heard his previous work has come to expect.

A superb package aimed firmly at the centre of the dancefloor but with more than enough finesse, attitude and subtlety to hold the ear of the home listener, “LBG” shows once again why Thunderheist are one of the most exciting and satisfying acts to come out of Canada’s burgeoning club scene in years…
