LYRICS:
Southern California late December night
The temp is hoverin’ around fifty-two
Beach Boys Christmas plays on repeat
And the neighbors are hittin’ the booze

Spanakopita, eggnog, pastitsio
The festive trimmings of all the years past
I fly three thousand miles for my touchstone of cheer
But this time it’s fallen out of my grasp

I’m home for the holidays
Taking drives in the afternoon
Down Santa Monica Freeway
To see the city that I refused
Ain’t love a funny thing?

Yeah I miss the mountains and I miss the beach
I miss the moments when we got along
But California Dreamin’ just wasn’t for me
Though Laurel Canyon sure could write a good song

Now I’m a snobby east coster and I’ve been that way
Since 08’ when I went to jazz school
I never look back except for once a year
And I do it just for you, come home for the holidays

Taking drives in the afternoon
Down Santa Monica Freeway
To see the city that I refused
Ain’t love a funny thing?
Ain’t love a funny thing?

A graveyard of dogs adorn our tree
Alongside old photos from Santa’s lap
Kal got a sled for Christmas back in 99’ and said
“What am I gonna do with that?”

It’s not that I don’t like to visit memories
But sometimes the wave hits me too strong
It knocks me backward then suddenly
I’m reminded how I didn’t belong
And I belong

Home for the holidays
Taking drives in the afternoon
Down Santa Monica Freeway
To see the city I never really knew

I’m home for the holidays
Taking drives in the afternoon
Down Santa Monica Freeway
To see the city that I refuse, to lose

Ain’t love a funny thing?
Ain’t love
Ain’t love a funny thing?

Seems a little quiet over here
