I was thinking back to being 11 years old, at the first rehearsal for the school play. It was my first year at the school, having recently moved country. It was extremely out of my comfort zone. My hands were in my pockets and I was slouching because I felt so self-conscious. The teacher shouted at me for having my hands in my pockets and for not standing up straight, as if it was the worst offence. It seemed out of the blue to me. Everyone was looking and I felt like the worst person in the world. My heart raced and my skin felt like it was covered in bugs. It was even harder to stand up straight. As children we get taught to never answer back, because it's disrespectful. Sometimes we grow up not knowing how or when to stand up for ourselves.
lyrics
Isolation
In its finest form
Withdrawing into a shell
Piercing sound
They're all looking now
Intentions unknown
I won't stand up straight for you
I'll be keeping my hands in my pockets too
I won't stand up straight for you
I'll be keeping my hands in my pockets too
Isolation
Isolation
Piercing sound
Isolation
Isolation
Piercing sound
Withdraw into your shell
It will all be over soon
Withdraw
Into
It will all be quiet soon
I won't stand up straight for you
I'll be keeping my hands in my pockets too
I won't stand up straight for you
I'll be keeping my hands in my pockets too
