A-Trak - Bee Bop

At the height of the Covid-19 lockdown, A-Trak had a musical epiphany. Stuck at home experimenting, he remembered he had a broken E-Mu SP1200 in storage that he’d been meaning to fix for over 10 years. The mythical drum machine with a gritty 12-bit sound was the weapon of choice for so many of the producers who shaped A-Trak’s ear: from Pete Rock to Madlib, from DJ Muggs to Kenny Dope, from Todd Terry to Alan Braxe and DJ Falcon. After a chance repair job, Trizzy taught himself how to use the rare SP, chopped up everything in sight and quickly churned out the rawest house beats he’s ever made. The result is a two-part EP of uptempo head-nodders, stripped down and named after the notoriously short sample time of his new toy. Best served dirty and loud.
