Sun Shy Boy shows a marked artistic evolution on this new seven-track EP on home label Freeride Millenium, with photography and cover art by Daniel Rajcsanyi.
Sun Shy Boy is a producer, multi-instrumentalist, choreographer and sound-artist who has formally studied music production and composition at the School of Arts in Utrecht. After finishing the SNDO Bachelor of Choreography in Amsterdam he has gone on to become known for his inventive, indie-leaning, trip-hop tinged electronic sounds with help from and collaborations with Ivo Dimchev, Rodrigo Sobarzo and BEA1991.
'So Sensative' is the immediately absorbing opening track: it's an intimate, late-night piece with low swinging drums and a shimmering chord sequence. Detached vocals finish off this downtempo masterclass before the indie-licked guitars and chillwave synths of 'Your Body Next To Mine' make for smoochy, loved-up listening. The Love continues to flow on 'A Topic You Didn't Know Existed' with its organic finger clicks and claps, and more of those heart-melting chords.
The exquisite 'I'm In A Deep Struggle On My Own' is a little darker and more emotionally wrought thanks to a mumbling rap, crisp drums and hits, and a real sense of longing in the sustained pads. 'Rustig Aan Gaan' marries retro-future synth sounds with modern beat production and a sunny day vibe that swells the heart before 'Love 5' is a pensive late-night lullaby and 'Color of Home' offers nagging bass topped off by steamy female vocals that will have you falling in love.
This is a moving 22 minute EP that blends slick production with real musicianship and plenty of familiar feelings of love, loss and lust.
