“Walden” by Canadian indie psych-rock band Whiplash Girlchild is a collision of two worlds: the isolation felt in the novel of the same name, in the cabin in the woods, and the isolation present in the band’s home city of Toronto. These two scenarios are compared and contrasted through a lush, larger than life soundscape, flowing through three short personal meditations on the topic. Threaded with a melodic bassline and repetitive, textured vocals, “Walden” is an encapsulating folk-psych experience.
