Gaffa Tape Sandy - Beehive

Bury St. Edmunds-based power trio Gaffa Tape Sandy recently signed to antigen records (home of SuperGlu), giving the label a monopoly on adhesive-themed bands from Suffolk.

They are: Catherine Lindley-Neilson (voice and bass), Kim Jarvis (voice and guitar) and Robin Francis (drums). The three friends formed the band in 2015 with the simple aim to do something “loud and exciting”. They are influenced by the White Stripes, Pixies, Violent Femmes, Pulled Apart By Horses, Slaves and (Thee) Oh Sees.

All three members of Gaffa Tape Sandy are very nice, polite young people from a picturesque market town in rural East Anglia and, as such, are a publicist’s nightmare. Pushed for lurid gossip, their manager was able to confirm that Robin worked in a Christian tea shop, Kim is often called “Tim” by people who mishear his name, and Catherine once had a job in a tile shop, where she became an expert in grout.

Fortunately, Gaffa Tape Sandy is a band without the need for a back-story filled with controversy or comedy misadventures to get people’s attention. Their self-released debut single “Smart-Dressed Guy” and follow-up EP “Spring Killing” have already received airplay on the Huw Stephens show and were championed by Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson. Live, they have supported Idles (twice), the Buzzcocks, SuperGlu, Get Inuit and the Stupids.

They were chosen by BBC Introducing to perform at this year’s Glastonbury, where they closed their set with a blistering version of new single “Beehive”, which will be available to download or stream on all reputable digital platforms from 20 October.
