"Promise", the new album from Emily Wells, is a soul record in baroque clothing. It is a pauper's opera about friendship, romance and risk; an occasional relic about forgetting and desire. Its title is derived from the installation "Promesa" by Cabella/Carceller, portrayed on the album's cover, which depicts abandoned sites of pleasure.
