Beds In Parks release their debut single ‘Mabel (When It Gets Dark)’ coupled with ‘Something To Do’ through Crocodile Records on 20th April 2015.
“I like you, I like you, I like you – ” chant Finnigan Kidd and Joanna Curwood
in unison as ‘Mabel (When It Gets Dark)’ comes to a heady climax, before it falls into
an extended instrumental. This is a life-affirming dance floor filling piece of DIY pop: distorted vocals; pounding floor toms; loud guitars.
“It’s all about having fun, a home-made approach, rock ‘n’ roll energy,
and an illicit lesbian affair” Finnigan
‘Something To Do’ really brings out the emotive qualities in the male and female vocals
as they harmonise over a more wistful tempo. It will still get you dancing -- but you may hold someone’s hand this time.
“Something To Do is about the modern day hang-up people have of feeling they have to be sociable and talkative, or else be thought odd.” Joanna
Beds In Parks came about with Joanna Curwood (Big Sister, The Diddlers, The History of Apple Pie) and Finnigan Kidd (Hatcham Social, Tim Burgess, Blue Moon) spending all last summer hanging out in Hackney Downs park writing songs together. They found inspiration from a shared love of alternative rock ‘n’ roll music like The Velvets, PJ Harvey, Iggy, The Vaselines, Mary Chain, Mazzy Star and The Breeders. And all things DIY.
Recorded themselves at home, these tracks are the sound of two people together in the moment, playing their hearts out.
They will be playing their debut live show at the single pre-release party at Crocodile Club, Ryans Bar, 181 Church Street, Stoke Newington, London, on 8th April.
