Toronto, ON (November 20, 2012) – It’s The Calm before the storm. Toronto’s hip-hop future is in good hands with 17 Year-old producer/artists like John River taking charge and this new release is proof of that. The Calm is available now for FREE download and we highly recommend you take it in. John River got a handful of self-produced tracks along with production from 16 Year-old Francis Got Heat and Mississauga's own, Showboiz. The Calm is refreshingly low on features, giving the project plenty of opportunity to showcase John River’s talent. Guest appearances include Bad Boy’s Los, Anthm and Kembe X.
“Every Evening” was the song that introduced us to John River and it nicely showcased his ability to tell a story, deliver a message and be mindful of keeping the music catchy. It was the type of introduction that gave you that urge to immediately dig through YouTube to find more of their work. We’ve been keeping a close eye on John ever since. He came across as a bit of a modern day sounding AZ with a similar vibe but undeniable individuality. At a young age he’s demonstrated leadership and a need to create positive change. “Don’t Want To Be” spoke out on the gun violence plaguing the GTA and comments on issues like racial profiling. From beginning to end, The Calm tells a story of a young black male growing up in Toronto and the challenges he’s facing. Click the jump to download the project for free.
