The track is led by Hip-Hop architect C.L. Smooth, who delivers his mission statement as soon as he touches the mic: “I’m here to hit ‘em with that sure-to-be-a-classic.” He drives that point home with sincere, sharp rhymes about both his legacy in the game and his future plans to keep creating. Given that this is the man who released Mecca And The Soul Brother and The Main Ingredient alongside boom-bap pioneer Pete Rock, it’s safe to say hip-hop needs C.L. Smooth.

Riding shotgun is Brooklyn-based indie-rap stalwart Skyzoo, who complements his host with poignant and passionate bars. The two prove to be a formidable team, especially with Australian producer M-Phazes behind the boards. His warm, sample-fueled instrumental adds depth to what’s proven to be one of the finest cuts in Coalmine’s library of sometimes-slept-on gems.

The artwork was crafted by Frank “DJ Concept” DeMaria, who delivers a strong shot of nostalgia with his design. On the cover, you have a piece that call to mind CL Smooth & Pete Rock’s classic Mecca And The Soul Brother, while the donuts pay homage to the old-school Elektra Records layout.
