It was a pleasure seeing you in DC, Mdou Moctar, and the electric energy of your live show translates to the record! A stomping, clapping, and driving psychedelic journey, underpinned by an urgent protest band structure – as I saw mentioned in an interview, the wailing phased guitar really does emulate a howling ambulance. Emergency, emergency for Africa and the world. I cannot help but dance (angrily?) in my chair at these ferocious melodies. I want to pick up my guitar now and write my own.
