«And the Sky gave up the Dead» was originally produced 2021 in the context of the exhibition »Journey Through a Body» at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, named after the 1981 LP by Throbbing Gristle.
In addition to the exhibition reader a 7’’ was produced for the exhibition; the A-side being «Mount Tamalpais (2014) by Automat feat. Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, and the B-side being «And the Sky gave up the Dead (2021) by Baal & Mortimer.
The undaunted poetic and musical work of Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and Throbbing Gristle has long challenged Baal & Mortimer to deepen what body, gender, mimesis, magic, and sex can be and mean. TOPY, chaos magic, and their industrial paganism are reference points for Baal & Mortimer to think differently about sound and subversion.
