I wrote ‘Go Down Swinging’ for my daughter… She’d taken a knock to her confidence and I wanted to write her something. I wanted her to have a song that told her exactly how I see her and something that empowers her to always stand her ground and never turn a blind eye to who she is.
lyrics
Red hair like a warning sign
A wild that won’t be tamed
A strength imposters imitate
Bravery fear can’t claim
Sweetness for the sorrowful
A light that knows no shade
A warmth this cold world’s longing for
Beauty time won’t fade
Beauty time won’t fade
Make the world work hard to bring you to your knees
Make the road you walk fear the sound of your heels
Make the stars line up when your soul starts singing
And if you ever go down, go down swinging
Go down swinging
Go down swinging
Go down swinging
Courage in the quiet ways
A voice that’s small but true
A rose by any other name
The exception to the rule
Keep your eyes wide open
To who you’ve always been
To your own heart be beholden
Never give in
Never ever give in
Make the world work hard to bring you to your knees
Make the road you walk fear the sound of your heels
Make the stars line up when your soul starts singing
And if you ever go down, go down swinging
Go down swinging
Go down swinging
Go down swinging
Make the world work hard to bring you to your knees
Make the road you walk fear the sound of your heels
Make the stars line up when your soul starts singing
Make the world work hard to bring you to your knees
Make the road you walk fear the sound of your heels
Make the stars line up when your soul starts singing
And if you ever go down, if you ever go down
If you ever go down, if you ever go down, go down swinging
Go down swinging
Go down swinging
Go down swinging
Go down swinging
