Say it all.
You can say it all now.
Say it all, say it all now
Mattress on the basement floor
Black sheets hung in place of doors
Sun breaks through the garden gutter windows
And I stay sick all winter
Light falls on the dormant drums
The morning never fully comes
The days are arranged
So there’s no way to locate the center
We stay asleep ‘til between two and three
In that frozen shrine
Waking upset
With our hanging regret to the midday chimes
You leave in a hurry
Your roommate will worry
You’ll call sometime
An unfinished lyric gets rushed without though
In its final line
I know we were there together
But there was no shared experience
I know we were all together
But we had to be different people then
Stillness in the glassy air
Artifacts are everywhere
Whose dirty shirt are you wearing,
And did they sleep over?
Tension in the temperature
You tell me not to mention her
And to cover my cough
Before something gets caught
You don’t want this degree of exposure
Mold starts to show
As it steadily grows over all ripe things
And the smell of wet wool
Keeps you uncomfortable through an uptight spring
While the yellow bulbs bloom
There’s a celibate room where your laughter rings
In the blissful beforement
That gives way to tormented aftering
Now I dream about stores that aren’t there anymore
And of misplaced faces
The outdated colors of years
Disappeared into grayscale stasis
I loved you,
But only in the context of loneliness
Trite and baseless
In the cowardly shelter of memory
And everything time erases
So much in the name of communication
But I wasn’t listening
I just liked talking then
A selfish voice without a destination
Absorbed in the gesture
But bored with connection
We rode along together in a one-speed bicycle construct
Rendered you anonymous
I paraphrased you ‘til you matched my flat, unblinking vision
Collapsed who you were until you fit in my picture
I know, I thought I was so convincing
But I wasn’t Lovesick like I said
I know we were there together
But I was a different person then
I know
Isn’t there a place?
Everything erased
Try to find a way.

As far as indie albums in the 2010's and beyond go, this is one of the most cohesive and emotive albums I've experienced looking back on it and is Jay Som's best album tokyonoir
