about

Columbus did not discover anything he was just lost at sea and then committed genocide of the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean. In the USA we are taught American exceptionalism and historical mythology. We can not have true community until we have a common history. May we lament the wicked parts of our history so we can heal and start to move forward together. This song carries a heavy message but also a message of hope.

lyrics

Columbus

Verse 1
Do you remember the Tiano Arawak?
Do you remember the Guanahatabey?
Do you remember the Caribs? Do you remember?
PreChorus
For the only thing the youths they learn in school
Was in 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue

Chorus
Hey Mr. Christopher Co-Co-Columbus
Do you get your own holiday?
For Murdering indigenous people ye-ah!
Kill off the native man, enslave the African
For the profit of of few white man
Hey Mr. Christopher Co-Co-Columbus
True history must be known
So you can’t stop dis ya reggae song, No!

Verse 2
You thought you landed in a India
Lo siento Cristobal, era Cuba
You were just lost at sea

Outro
Ah, No, no no, you canʻt stop this reggae song!
Ah, No, no no, you canʻt stop this reggae song!
It started with the Doctrine of Discovery, yes we’ve had a wicked, wicked history
No wonder our nation is such a mess
Genocide, slavery, manifest destiny
Mass incarceration, red lining, police brutality
Systems in place to keep minorities down
Especially if you're black or brown
There will be no, no community
Until we have a common, common history
No, no no, we canʻt stop this reggae song!
No, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
No, No, No!
