A Winter Dream, Revived by the Velvets’ Children Across Time.
In a mesmerizing collaboration, Tokyo’s The Moment of Nightfall and San Francisco’s Tony Jay bring to life a winter soundscape, echoing the lineage of bands like The Velvet Underground, Yo La Tengo, Young Marble Giants, Spacemen 3, The Pastels, and Galaxie 500. Their new album, Winter Dream, quietly reaches across continents and decades, weaving together the delicate threads of ambient psychedelia, largely unheard since the early 2000s.
In the heart of Tokyo, 2024, the album came to life—blending the deep, personal oscillations of these historic influences with a uniquely modern sensibility. The album captures the spirit of an ethereal soundscape, a meeting between Japan's deep-rooted indie scene, uninterrupted since the '90s, and San Francisco's own distinctively positioned underground scene. The result is a beautifully fragile, dreamlike record that transcends time and place.
The Moment of Nightfall, led by Masato Saito (Pervenche), and featuring members Yoko Satori (Penny Arcade), Yuji and Tomomi (red go-cart), Masayuki Takahashi (Pervenche, 800 cherries), and Miki Hirose (Kokyu, Smokebees, h-shallows), joined forces with Tony Jay to craft this record. Recorded over two days during Tony Jay’s Japan tour in the sweltering heat of August 2024, the resulting album depicts a haunting reflection of fleeting beauty and delicate intricacy with vocals that melt into fragile textures, Winter Dream evokes a mystical space—a world dimly lit and mysteriously

lyrics

All things freeze in time
Like when you were mine
Walking through the woods
You tried so hard to be good

Kori no mori

This morning when i read about you
I cried so hard for the ones left without you
All those years i've forgotten
Has my heart grown rotten ?
