about
This composition is by the late great Stanley Cowell. I covered his modern classic “Equipoise” on my previous album (Seismic Shift) and we have also been playing his tune “departure” with this quartet so I figured I would keep his musical thread going. It’s an amazing tune and such fun to to play! Mr Cowell was very generous to me personally several years ago, offering me advice and encouragement pertaining to artistic creativity within the music “business”. I started to play his tunes after he passed in late 2020. More people should know his music.

i was at 2 of these shows and they were a highlight of the year for me, so glad to see this music released -- the interplay is incredible and the interpretations are so fresh. the recording quality is excellent as well. e123

There's a smile of something good
something
very good. Coming. Maybe not
Don't over think it
Just let it be in you
for the time that you're willing to give
maybe long enough to let the baseline wrap itself
all around
that very thought
and then a well placed A Minor and a briush that lightly ticks
plays ... pounces ...
Listen all you w
(scary) ant.
Just try and eat dinner
Scat!
and just be grateful
you got a bit of this hip gab
to dab your gaze magoski
