I listened to this when it first released, but for some reason didn't pull the trigger. I can't at this point figure out why. Thanks as always are due to year-end lists for these discoveries (and rediscoveries). Tell Us is a beautiful trio of songs that are gentle but energetic, with a cinematic stirring of energy present throughout. Piano, strings, keys, or drums may at any time be leading the moment, with smoothly flowing transitions between instruments shaping the trajectory of the songs. rvss.eel
Chief Adjuah is certainly one of the great trumpet players and musicians of our time. And keen to experiment - Miles would have been delighted. In November 2024, I heard him and his very young, very talented musicians give a fantastic concert at the Zentralwäscherei Zurich. Rudi
Ricano Live is exactly that. Suazo took the songs from his 2023 Ricano album on the road and recorded the results, the best of which found their way here. What were muscular tunes to begin with open up and breathe here, attaining new heights. I was fortunate enough to catch a performance in Chicago, and to my delight Seguimos Luchando from that show made it to the record. It features a second Puerto Rican saxophonist, Roy McGrath, whose tenor compliments and supports Suazo's alto magnificently. dondechi
