With a Discography full of discordant terror, this is easily one of Portal's most oppressive releases. An album that is just a sonic assault of esoteric horrors and just when you have a chance to catch your breath, it pulls you right back under and doesn't let go. Especially with the opening track "Cataflque." This album is heavy, harsh and unrelenting. It's good.

I believe I've discovered that the proper way to ingest this album is to alternate between Avow and Hagbulbia tracks in descending order. Each pummeling by Avow is interspersed with a suffocating, premonitory density of Hagbulbian conjuration.

Seen the band live on tour with Dödsrit (SWE) and Blackbraid, and I was honestly surprised by how good the live gig was, having come across some older albums that did not convince me at all. This one, however, is another matter, really getting more and more into it. Closer to the post-BM I listen to, and less "avant-garde" than I initially expected... Thank you Ula for insisting on this one :))

This is a much more rocking and melodic output than the band's previous releases but not exactly a retread of the 'Memoria Vetusta' sound, though it would still be the closest comparison. The 7 tracks are all similar in their approach, with sprawling soundscapes of distorted riffs and woozy solos that show both a meditative and an abrasive side, along with raging screams and chants emerging from the din. Even if it is not as impactful for some people, it’s still a very unique experience.
