EN : Discover 'Tiemblas', a track that draws on Colombia's musical heritage using an accordion sample borrowed from the vallenato classic 'La Casa en el Aire'. Ëda, the artist behind the piece, pays tribute to the accordion, to composer Rafael Escalona and to the rich musical tradition of her second homeland.
Tiemblas' skilfully blends alternative influences, such as Björk, with this popular Colombian rhythm born of the cultural fusion between native Amerindians, Europeans and Arabs exiled from the Ottoman Empire. The result is a captivating melody that embodies this musical diversity.
The song tells the story of Ëda's journey to the Amazon, where she befriends a local guide with a wooden leg. She is inspired by a local proverb: 'You can catch a liar quicker than a lame man'. Tiemblas' explores the theme of the masks people wear, the lies they tell themselves, and the fear of revealing their true feelings.
Ëda has already enjoyed success with a French-language version of 'La Casa en el Aire', which has gone viral on social networks. Her work has earned her an interview on the morning show of W Radio, the most listened-to station in Colombia, as well as a reception at the home of Maestro Rafael Escalona by his descendants.
On the Colombian music scene, Ëda belongs to a family of alternative artists such as Las Añez, Puerto Candelaria, Edson Velandia, Meridian Brothers, Mitu, Lido Pimienta, Briela Ojeda and Maria Cristina Plata, with whom she recently performed two concerts. Another golden compilation from AA! Great introduction to Afro-Colombian psychedelia via the Discos Machuca back catalogue. These songs are full of infectious percussion, trance-inducing rhythms, sun-soaked melodies, and hauntingly beautiful vocals. Hard to pick a favourite song, but I've played side D the most.
