Love Minus 80 is based on a dystopian science fiction novel of the same name, written by Will McIntosh and published in 2013. The song centers around the different points of view of two of the main characters featured prominently in the book, Rob and Winter. Having just been publicly broken up with over an advanced interactive social media system, Rob is driving home when he hits a jogger and kills her instantly. But, since the novel is set in the year 2133, by using the latest in cryogenic technologies, Winter’s body is repaired and held at 80 degrees below. The trouble for Rob is that it will cost him just about everything to get Winter out of Cryomed where she is being held.
The track seemed well-suited for a duet and Orion of Thought Beings kindly agreed to lend his rich, textured and romantic vocals to the album’s title track.
lyrics
You said we’d be fine
And I believed you
Just make up your mind
Please help me get through
Never said it’d be easy
We must not forget
That it’s a timeless experiment
Never-ending romance
Every time you’re away
Seconds go on for days
Just give me one last chance
Promise I can bring you back
Oh I’d bend time just to have you near
Here in my arms
I know you’re waiting patiently
Promise I will set you free
Even if it takes a hundred years
To see you again
It’s been such a long time
Since I’ve seen you
Laying there in the ice
You were so confused
Living life deep in shadow
Trying to pay my debt
Cuz it’s a timeless experiment
Never-ending romance
I don’t care what they say
I know I’ll find a way
Just give me one last chance
Promise I can bring you back
Oh I’d bend time just to have you near
Here in my arms
I know you’re waiting patiently
Promise I will set you free
Even if it takes a hundred years
To see you again
