It was a pleasure seeing you in DC, Mdou Moctar, and the electric energy of your live show translates to the record! A stomping, clapping, and driving psychedelic journey, underpinned by an urgent protest band structure – as I saw mentioned in an interview, the wailing phased guitar really does emulate a howling ambulance. Emergency, emergency for Africa and the world. I cannot help but dance (angrily?) in my chair at these ferocious melodies. I want to pick up my guitar now and write my own. pinkytheent
Very happy a colleague recommended Mdou Moctar to me after I discovered & fell in love with Tinariwen and this new (to me) desert blues sound! Mdou Moctar inject more of a psychedelic sensibility into their music rather than Tinariwen's drone, making it flavorfully distinctive, while still carrying that shining, twanging, sun-drenched sound we all love about Saharan desert rock. Love the grooving rhythms and the alternately snappy clean or drowned-in-effects guitar melodies. Excellent work! pinkytheent
Just the kind of gentle soundtrack I need when I am doing simple repetitive manual tasks. Impossible to decide on a favourite track because they are all wonderful. Jeremy Cherfas
