I've seen a few kinda complain that this is too "happy"? Reminds me of the old 90's doom fans that could never conceive of the members of My Dying Bride ever being happy. Great mixture of pagan/folk metal with black metal. Fans of metal with Viking trappings are going to dig this. Hell, "Pohjan Akka" almost has a polka feel to it. I'm really enjoying this.

The first album is already a very good one, but the second is even better! It contains again nature black metal, quite melodic, but also wild, with some folkloristic elements, full of atmosphere and performed with passion. For me, BLACKBRAID fits well into the same category as other epic one man bands like Saor, Ruadh or Pure Wrath. Besides the catchy and quite straight opener "The Spirit returns", I mention the mightiest track "Moss covered Bones on the Altar of the Moon" as my favourite song!

The opening of the album might mislead you a little. Those folk-y elements soon largely disappear, leaving you with listening to good black metal, with maybe a, uh, groove(?) tinge.
