A must-have for PG fans. Truly amazing how he's still got it in abundance, in an era when so many others have either lost it or never had it to begin with.

If this single demonstrates what we have in store for i/o we have an incredible journey in store. Peter never disappoints.

Ay oop a proper tune from Septegenarian Peter Gabriel, revisiting concepts around since the time of the Lamb. Musically covering all the decade bases whilst remaining pure Gabriel, i think i detect a little Love (Alone again or) or Procol Harum. Look forward to other mixes light and dark, and concert in June. 20 years, who cares, I know what I like. Think Peter might like Verbal Delirium, next up too. Excellent Mr Gabriel.

Panopticom is the first track to be released from the forthcoming album i/o. This is the Bright-Side Mix, by Mark 'Spike' Stent.
‘The first song is based on an idea I have been working on to initiate the creation of an infinitely expandable accessible data globe: The Panopticom. We are beginning to connect a like-minded group of people who might be able to bring this to life, to allow the world to see itself better and understand more of what’s really going on.’ -pg
Musically Panopticom drives along powered by the engine-room of long-time collaborators Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché, underpinned by haunting electronics from Brian Eno. Additional backing vocals from Ríoghnach Connolly of The Breath. The lyric is, in part, inspired by the extraordinary work of three groups, Forensic Architecture, Bellingcat and the Gabriel co-founded pioneering human rights organisation WITNESS.
lyrics
In the air the smoke cloud takes its form
All the phones take pictures while it’s warm
Panopticom, let's find out what's going on
Panopticom, let's see where clues are leading
Panopticom, won't you show us what's going on
Panopticom, show how much is real
And we pour the medicine down
While we watch the world around us
We got witness on the ground
Taking in the evidence
And we reach across the globe
Got all the information flowing
You face the motherload
Tentacles around you
Around you
From above and deep below the ground
It was in Berlin that all the evidence was found
Look from the street and we look down from the skies
See through the barriers
We can see through all those lies
Panopticom, let's find out what's going on
Panopticom, let's see where clues are leading
Panopticom, won't you show us what's going on
Panopticom, show how much is real
And we pour the medicine down
While we watch the world around us
We got witness on the ground
Taking in the evidence
And we reach across the globe
Got all the information flowing
You face the motherload
Tentacles around you
Around you
Around you
Around you
Around you

His first solo album in 17 years, but, of course, the incredible Tony L. has been anything but idle in the meantime - never was, actually. The list of important recordings to which he significantly contributed is nothing but astonishing!
As others wrote before, this is a self-served tribute to vast parts of his career. Sonically rich and diverse, fantastic playing by everyone (and there's a lot of awe inspiring guests here), humour, barbershop musings... Wonderful! Thank you very much, Tony! Carsten Pieper

I attended this festival and it introduced me to great music coming from places other than Europe and North America. Unlike any other festival I'd been to before. Subsequent WOMADs have continued that education. As such the 1982 festival will always be the most important one I've ever attended. I can now not just rely on my memory to remind me how good it was. wychelmgb

I’m a big Radiohead fan and this album is kind of like a new Radiohead album. However, I feel that The Smile will prove to be an exciting project in its own right and I look forward to whatever new music they may release in the future. justlimboisfine
