Like so many of their peers, Shrimp Eyes saw the pandemic hit right at the point when they were achieving the highest success of the band to date. Their tongue-in-cheek single 'Straight Up' saw the Peckham four-piece enter the Top 10 chart on
Amazing Radio, alongside plays from existing fans Jess Iszatt at BBC Introducing in London, Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson, Huw Stephens and John Kennedy at 6Music,Radio 1 and Radio X. 'Straight Up' also helped the band find new supporters in Jack Saunders on R1's Indie Show and Spotify's Hot New Bands editorial playlist.
Having persisted through the malaise of lockdowns and road-testing their new songs at grassroots venues across London earlier this Spring, Shrimp Eyes returned to Peckham's Super Unison studios to self-record and self-produce yet another witty banger in 'Fits and Starts'.
Drawing on the pent-up garage-psych of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard; binge-watching docuseries' that explore the potential of magic mushrooms to heal society
and leaning into a growing confidence that comes with new wisdom, Shrimp Eyes are ready to go again. 'Fits and Starts' shimmers with defiance, as atmospheric guitars intertwine around a driving drum and bass backbone. The melodic hook is cemented by bright vocal
harmonies that contrast the angsty lyrics. The song captures the frustration of getting bogged down by the mundane aspects of life and navigating the struggle to be creative, when you don't have the time, or the resources taken for granted by others.
