about
Radio is as much about the mind as it is about the voice, and after years on the air, LA’s own SiLVA has proven this truth time and time again.
When you catch SiLVA every Friday night from 10PM to 1AM on member-supported KCRW, she isn’t just maintaining the smooth vibes with her commentary. She is cruising through the night, picking excellent and felicitous music, building aural landbridges between Led Zeppelin and Justin Jay; between Robag Wruhme and Donna Summer.
Only someone with a mind for what works could put together the eclectic dance floor jam that is “Elevate Us,” the new single on Lots of Practice.
Within the track’s five minutes, SiLVA effortlessly combines house music, deep house, and acid house in a manner that is as professional as it is seductive. Rather than take the basic elements of each subgenre and stack them on top of one another, she intuitively blends them with maturity and restraint.
A funky and forward-moving house music bassline with the subtle rings of deep house chords, and an expanding 303 acid line all happening at the same time without overpowering one another. The most prominent factor is SiLVA’s understanding of music, one that will continue to see her grow and evolve as an artist for years to come.
