about
"My Broken Arm is a song I (Thomas) actually wrote over 10 years ago. The song is essentially about being frustrated by having to support a music career with shitty jobs that don't pay much, and spending all your time working and none of that time making music, and realizing you could be a hell of a lot happier with less money and more time to do the things you really love. Things that drive you. It's a vicious cycle that lots of musicians have to deal with."
"We recorded a version of 'My Broken Arm' with a different band we (Carter, Brannen, and our original drummer Payton) were in called "the Interns," but never ended up doing too much with it. We always thought it would be a good fit on a Futurebirds album, but never got around to re-recording it until the sessions for our upcoming album, Teamwork. Teamwork will hit your ears this fall......Thanks to our fans everywhere."

lyrics
Take the best out of me
Take it as far as your eyes can see
Just don’t leave me with my broken arm
I know how much that’ll be
The price you pay for a pair in green
But my empty pockets just won’t leave me be
But the money’s no good
The race it won’t stop at each day’s end
It’s not a life worth living if you can’t talk to your friends
You’re just passing twenties
I have a big hole in my heart
And a sick thought in my mind
But the money’s no good
Take the best out of me
Kept inside some nostalgia dream
Just don’t leave me with my broken arm
This greed has left my family
With heavy hearted humility
But this drought won’t dry their soaking sleeves
So go on and lead the way with your crumbling hands
And lie awake in bed, humbled, wondering (damn)
How you can’t raise your plans in this tired city
But the race it won’t stop at each days end
It’s not a life worth living if you just can’t find a friend
You’re just stashing twenties
I have a big hole in my heart
And sick thoughts in my mind
But the money’s no good

A lovely addition to the best project of 2023, that at some points feel like B-Sides, but is overall just as strong as the work that made it on "the record" Outer Estate
