Since first learning of this artist, I’ve seen all the comparisons and made many of the same ones myself. But while traces of numerous retro influences are apparent, DM really is its own thing. It’s a synthesis of old and new, past and future at once. I find the term “Synthpop Fusion” from another page to be an apt descriptor. Demure (+ the enigmatic Mona D.) has found the creative sweet spot between convention and novelty, making already-tread ground seem like unexplored territory. Fantastic.
