A quintet led by Finnish bassist and composer Kaisa Mäensivu, is already a powerhouse lauded as a “band of young aces” (New York Times) and “refreshingly inventive” (All About Jazz) Dave Douglas
5-star review in The Times:
'Best jazz albums of 2025 so far':
'These young musicians, who are incredibly good, are joined by several older ones... Wheeler’s legacy is safe.' Dave Douglas
The word halcyon describes “a period in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful.” Implicit is the breeze of nostalgia, which carries a whiff of regret: such days do belong to the past. Dave Douglas
This album has a seriously cool groove & vibe. Rudy doesn't as much drive, even though he's up front in the mix, as direct a first class group of musicians down a joyous road. I've listened to this at least 12 times so far, finding something new each time. So Freakin' Worth It! Kenneth Pyron
I'm a big fan of Donny McCaslin so this is hardly objective. This a great modern Jazz album that combines Donny's crisp. inventive sax lines with some intense keyboard which is often reminiscent of ambient electronica. The rhythm section is as solid as you can get. These are musicians at the top of their game.
Its worth noting that if you listen to this album through cheap speakers or cans its a very sub-par experience. There is a lot of deep bass and it's integral to the sound! Crinklechips
