the sun lays low on a solemn city
all i see is sexual red
the last rays burst through between the train cars
and shine directly on my head
so come and find me in this moment
and expose a passionate man for what he is
we'll cut loose our gold
'cause we need fire
and only kindling can it buy
wildness is our treasure
so boldly surrender
to me and to the night
on the lash
and lashing out
it's evil's sway tonight
a candle's pulse is no companion
when all you see is sexual red
you burn away your dreams inside a journal
and leave those primal words unsaid
i'll run to find you in this moment
and expose a passionate women for what she is
we'll cut loose our gold
'cause we need fire
and only kindling can it buy
wildness is our treasure
so boldly surrender
to me and to the night
on the lash
and lashing out
it's evil's sway tonight
As far as indie albums in the 2010's and beyond go, this is one of the most cohesive and emotive albums I've experienced looking back on it and is Jay Som's best album tokyonoir
I’ve known of STRFKR since around the time this album was originally released (2012 or 2013, most likely). That said, it’s taken me until now (February 10, 2023) to listen to STRFKR. And allow me to say this is something I somewhat regret. This album reminds me a lot of MGMT’s “Oracular Spectacular” but less polished. There’s an earnestness to these songs that is undeniable, and it’s a helluva lot of fun. If electro rock is your cup of tea, bring an empty cup; STRFKR’s gonna make sure it’s full. Kirk Gauthier
