Editorial Reviews
Product Description
These songs are strikingly beautiful, if less elliptical and more straightforward, with more sophisticated arrangments than the last record, 2006's EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME. Produced by Phil Ek.
Amazon.com
Band of Horses now rest in the hands of South Carolina tenant Ben Bridwell following the departure of his right-hand man Mat Brooke, who bolted to form Grand Archives following the 2006 inauguration Everything All the Time, and the impassioned Bridwell validates out of the blocks, leading off the follow-up album with "Is There a Ghost," an exquisite chunk of pure-pop bliss. With a voice that lands somewhere between the euphoria of Brian Wilson and the anguish of the late Chris Bell (Big Star), Bridwell (and core mates Rob Hampton and Creighton Barrett) appears a modern archetype behind a playlist that teeters among tender ("No One's Gonna Love Me," "Window Blues"), twang ("Marry Song," "Detlef Schrempf"), and turbulent ("Cigarettes, Wedding Bands," the aforementioned "Is There a Ghost"). Using the same producer and regal m.o. as on the debut, Cease punctuates its magnitude among Sub Pop's top-drawer power elite (The Shins and Iron & Wine), asserting this Band of Horses' fast-rising run for the roses. --Scott Holter

- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2013People, if you like jingly-jangly electric guitars that sound like they're falling from outer space to crash land on your head in an explosion of distorted sing-along refrains, then by golly look no further than these musical equids' sophomore effort. During a lengthy, Band of Horses-accompanied car ride through the midwest, i decided once and for all that this record belonged in my collection of LPs. No one's gonna love this record more than i do, not even Detlef.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2013Fronted by the otherworldly voice of Ben Bridwell, Band Of Horses make dreamy folk music ala Fleet Foxes and My Morning Jacket. Alternating between cushiony pop, unabashed folk and guitar rock, "Cease To Begin" cuts a wide swath musically. Sometimes the jumps can be jarring, like when the bashing guitars of "Cigarettes Wedding Bands" slips into the country ballad "Window Blues," complete with a banjo. There's a great opener in "Is There A Ghost" that mixes both the dream-pop with an eventual cascade of guitsr, combing the band's strength in the best offering here. What ties this all together is Bridwell's voice and an uncanny sense of melody; even his brashest songs have underlying hooks. Add some really gorgeous harmonies ("Window Blues" again), you get one of those indie bands earning their cred the hard way, by working outside the system. "Cease To Begin" is a relaxed and understated album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buen disco
A pesar de no superar su disco debut, Cease to Begin continúa con la misma línea de su antesesor y logra cautivar a aquellos que gustamos de la nostalgia de esta banda.
El disco llego antes de lo esperando y en buenas condiciones

5.0 out of 5 stars TOP !
