Product Description
After a breakthrough debut album, more than three full North American tours in one year a tour with Zero 7 and major TV performances, José González returns with his second album IN OUR NATURE. This latest opus sees José González coming into his own as a songwriter - with songs that are as instantly accessible as they are brimming with darkness and brooding intensity. Catch José on tour this fall and on TV: Late Night with Conan O'Brien (9/28/07) & Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Names like Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, and Tim Buckley are often used together, not necessarily to describe one exact sonic style of singer, but more as incredibly passionate verbs, to identify the strong emotions evoked when listening to these late legends' sparse melodies. Swedish-based Argentinian musician José González is likely to hear those classic names a lot in his future. González received critical underground love from his 2003 debut disc Veneer, but garnered more widespread attention as a guest vocalist for downtempo group Zero 7. The singer's gentle vocals and Spanish-meets-classical guitar style make a quietly compelling match, especially so on his sophomore CD In Our Nature, easily the best work--either as a solo or contributing vocalist--that he has released to date. The track that may well attract the most new eardrums is his sparse, whisper-soft cover of Massive Attack's "Teardrop" (a.k.a., the theme song to the TV show House), but many of his own tunes are equally endearing. War and world leaders were clearly on his mind when writing this disc, from opener "How Low"--in which González sings "Invasion after invasion/This means war/Someday you'll be up to your knees/in the shit you seek"--to the flamenco-affected track, "Killing for Love." All of these poignant--and at times pointed--lyrics are surrounded in lush, yet sparse melodies that make for music that is truly praise-worthy, bordering on timeless. --Denise Sheppard

- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2022I first heard this song while watching a TV show and the Shazam mistakenly identified it as Jose Gonzalez's cover of the Massive Attack version. Okay, I may not have purchased it but since I did I listened to it several times and it stands in it's own right. Other tracks that I liked include Killing for Love, Fold, and The Nest. I have added the songs I like the best into several playlists, but can easily listen to the entire CD as background music while doing other things.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2012The title says it all:
Pros: Jose sounding great on vinyl.
Cons: The vinyl came in the right cover, with the right insert, but stamped as the single "Sugar Hill" by A.Z. Is it "Sugar Hill"? No, thankfully, it is not. Actually, now that I think about it, having my album stamped as "Sugar Hill" is a pro, as this is likely to deter any vinyl thief from taking this album.
New Con: Downside, if the zombie apocalypse comes, and per Shaun of the Dead, we're throwing records to fight the zombies, I could in the heat of battle accidentally throw this record thinking it is really a vinyl single of "Sugar Hill".
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2017I first began to listen to Jose Gonzalez when I saw the movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.. Perfect music for relaxation from a hard day at work, taking a drive down the coast, a romantic evening. I am renewed after to listening to this CD. I will buy more of Jose Gonzalez.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2019I'm giving it 4 stars only because I had to replace it once, due to issues with my first copy. The replacement copy sounds fantastic, it's a quality, quiet pressing.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2013Has a great sound to it, like something America would have done if they smoked more and several of the band member left leaving a striped down holistic sound. Great grove on the acoustic guitar in many of the songs. This is the first Jose album i've picked up and there will be more. Excellent find.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2016Of course music is highly subjective when it comes to preference, but this album is excellent to my taste. If you're already a fan, expect more of the same delicate guitar counterpointed by hearty strums and simple percussion, along with Mr. Gonzalez' rich, soothing voice and thoughtful lyrics.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2014In our nature is forever in my heart! This album really hits home for me. Jose is the man, to be concise and his music is personal and emotional. What this man can do with just a guitar will inspire musicians for ages to come. A simply wonderful album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime Musical Craftsmanship
Timeless Beauty and Simplicity: The timeless beauty of this album lies in its simplicity. González's minimalist approach allows the raw emotion and authenticity of his music to shine through. "In Our Nature" is a mesmerizing collection that resonates with those who appreciate the beauty found in acoustic simplicity and profound lyricism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magique
Superbe album. Envoûtant, obsession musicale rappelant Philip Glass en guitare. Un dommage: les morceaux sont trop courts , 2,30mn max... C'est un peu frustrant !

Superschöne, ruhige Musik. Für Fans z. B. von Jack Johnson oder Simon and Garfunkel. Erzeugt eine schöne Stimmung zum Träumen.

5.0 out of 5 stars il secondo, splendido, capitolo di Jose Gonzalez
